Teacup Australian Shepherds

Teacup Australian ShepherdsThe growing reproduction of the smallest dogs in a litter of puppies leads to a generation of even smaller Aussies known as "teacup" Australian Shepherds and their popularity is increasing due to their adorable appearance. They have the same qualities as the standard Australian Shepherd - loveable, energetic, athletic, obedience and herding skills but are much smaller in size.

These Teacup Aussies are a bit smaller than the "toy" or miniature Australian Shepherds and can sometimes mistakenly be identified as their older generation. These Teacups are under 25cm at shoulder height and weighs between 2kg and 10kg. The Toy Australian Shepherds are between 25cm and 35cm, while the miniature Aussies are between 35cm and 40cm in height. Their weights are between 10kg and 20kg and 20kg to 30kg respectively. Typically, all three types of Australian Shepherds have the same color markings. Their colors are black, red or blue and these colors can be mixed with a tan or white markings. The only white markings that should appear on their face, should be in a long strip that extends from the back of the head to the snout area. This type of dog also have medium to long hair that is waving and soft to touch. The hair on the back of their head and neck plus the backs of their legs, should also be slightly longer than the hair on the head or near the ear area. One more characteristic of the "Teacup" Aussies is that their ears are floppy and soft. The dog needs to have all these requirements to be considered a pure, true Teacup Australian Shepherd.
